When Sleep Attacks: Insomnia, Sleep Apnea, and What to Do When Sleep Goes Wrong

A brief tour of sleep medicine: why do we need sleep and what are the most common types of sleep disorders.  We’ll also discuss strategies for combating insomnia and when you do and when you do not need a sleep study.

Objectives:

  • The learner will be able to identify why do we need sleep and what are the most common types of sleep disorders.
  • The learner will be able to list strategies for combating insomnia.

 


 

Dr. Davis is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and attended medical school at the University of Buffalo. His neurology residency was at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, where he completed a fellowship in sleep disorders

Dr. Davis is board certified in sleep medicine and neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  He is affiliated with the Monmouth Medical Center Comprehensive Sleep Center and also has an adult neurology practice in West Long Branch.  He sees adults and children with a wide range of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, and sleepwalking.

In his spare time, Dr. Davis enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 young daughters, which gives him a personal insight into sleeplessness.  He also enjoys skeet shooting and attempting to play golf.
