In Partnership with STEAMpark, The Center for Kids

STEAM learning encourages children to embrace discovery, share dialogue, and engage in critical thought. Children who experience STEAM learning develop skills for the future. Through interactive, interdisciplinary learning, children become inspired, imagining endless possibilities as they prepare for a rapidly changing world.

  • Providing academic and social-emotional after-school support with programming in schools, churches and community spaces, joining with families and daytime educators to promote growth mindset
  • Serving at-risk students academic and social-emotional summer support, with supervised care, exercise, reading, math, coding, nutrition, mentorship and inquiry-based learning

Currently, STEAMpark works with over 120 families in Keansburg that are at risk, food insecure or living under the poverty line.

We are awaiting instructions on how and when we can deliver non-perishable food items or deliver prepared foods to the school.

Become a STEAMpark Tutor during the COVID-19 Crisis

Currently, we need volunteers who can remotely tutor a child through their school work for one hour a day, 5 days a week. Ideally, a young person, high school or college-aged with less responsibility may be able to fulfill this position.

Please send to all you know and email info@WEforumGroup.org if you can volunteer your time.

Donate or Prepare Foods for Keansburg Students and Their Families

Please email info@WEforumGroup.org if you are willing and able to cook prepared trays of food for school children and their families in Keansburg. We have no orders to begin that process, but want to collect volunteers and be prepared in the event food is needed. Drop off locations and more information will be provided when information becomes available.

  • Suggested items to cook: trays of macaroni and cheese or pasta with butter or red sauce.
  • Non-perishable items that can be donated are: soups, juice boxes, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars.
  • Supplies needed: tampons, pads, diapers, wipes, sanitizers.
  • Cash donations: Any amount whether $10, $20, $50, $100 or more will go a long way.

A Note from WEforum:

Please practice good, social responsibility. Our nation’s doctors, nurses, educators, food service, military and public officials are working around the clock caring for everyone in our communities. They are our heroes and we need to help them. In order to do our part as community members, we must do everything we can to practice good hygiene and social distance. Reduce what you can that is non-essential. Life will return to normal. In the meantime, there are important things we can do to help our community so that when life returns to normal, we will all have an easier transition:
  • Food Insecurity: Mobilize your neighbors to help feed children and families that may be food insecure in various school districts. Some local restaurants and charities are offering free and/or reduced meals, but could use help spreading the word or connecting their offerings to the ones who need it most.
  • Local charities: Local charities that depend on your support are suffering and canceling events. Contact them to find out what you can do to make sure they can continue to operate and serve the people who rely on their contributions.
  • Local businesses: There are many ways to support your local businesses such as buying gift certificates for future use or asking if they deliver. They can use your money now, as they are under temporary closure advisories, and your purchase will go a long way in helping them pay their employees, pay their rent and survive until they can reopen.
  • Gym memberships: Don’t cancel gym memberships, you will need it to reboot your physical activity very soon — spring is right around the corner, and summer will be here before you know it. In the meantime, look for online streaming options. Many local studios are offering free or discounted workouts that you can do in your own home to stay active during this time.
  • Service economy: If you pay for services such as cleaning, lawn, or salon services, etc., please continue to pay them during this time if you can afford to or come up with a plan that also provides with necessary social distancing until the government allows for more flexible social interaction. While you temporarily halt these services, remember that these people and businesses may rely heavily on your paycheck in order to feed their families and pay their rent.
  • Now the good part- You: Concentrate on your own health and wellness and start or restart a good nutrition plan. If you are at home working or taking care of your loved ones, young and old, you may find that you have some spare time to organize your meal plans for a healthier, better you. With warmer weather right around the corner, these efforts will make you feel and look better and keep you in control of one part of your life.
We have been through this together as a nation before, and we will get through this again (H1N1, 9/11, Hurricane Irene, Hurricane Sandy, financial collapse of 2008, etc). Rely on your community, reach out to those you care about, and just breathe.
