In response to the evolving challenges faced by today’s youth, WEforum Group and the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide (SPTS) are set to host a community conversation event, tackling the complexities of youth mental health struggles. This insightful and transformative event is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19th, at The Two River Theater, 21 Bridge Avenue, Red Bank, NJ.
The event agenda is as follows:
- Registration: 6:30 pm
- Program: 7:00-8:00 pm
- Q&A: 8:00-8:30 pm
The discussion will be moderated by Susan Tellone, clinical director of Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide (SPTS). The panelists include Kalisha Smith, LCSW, associate clinical director at SPTS, Stacy Brief, LMSW, coordinator at SPTS Summit Long Island, Steve Sefcik, an adult with lived experience and parent voice, co-founder of Remembering T.J., and Marli J. Gelfrand, M.A. L.P.C., A.C.S., Assistant Vice President of Behavioral Health Services, RWJBarnabas Health – Monmouth Medical Center (MMC).
“We believe that breaking the silence is the first step towards building a community that thrives on mental well-being,” stated Carolyn DeSena, founder of WEforum Group and MMC Trustee. “By openly discussing these issues, we hope to shatter the stigma surrounding youth mental health.”
The event aims to create an open and safe environment for parents, caregivers, and community members to come together, share experiences, and gain valuable knowledge to support the younger generation in facing the challenges of today’s world.
“We want to provide attendees with a candid look into personal experiences and valuable insights from our panel of experts,” added Susan Tellone. “This conversation will delve into recognizing subtle signs preceding mental health crises, offering a unique perspective on what the panelists wish they had known earlier.”
Official partners for the event include the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide, Monmouth Medical Center, RWJBarnabas Health, Tigger Stavola Foundation, Mental Health Association of Monmouth County, The Source at Red Bank Regional High School, Shore House, and Rumson Forrestdale School. In collaboration with Ridge Road Alliance, students will receive 1.5 hours of community service for attendance.
